Having trouble using the Viddler webcam recorder? Check here for possible solutions:
I’m using OS X
Is another application using your Webcam?
If another application or Flash file is accessing your webcam (such as iMovie or Photo Booth) no other application will be able to use your webcam.
Note: For users of the built-in iSight, your camera is active if the green LED next to it is on.
Check Flash Settings:
Open System Preferences, and select Flash Player.
On the “Storage” tab, check to make sure “Allow sites to save information on this computer” is selected.
Then click on “Local Storage Settings by Site…” and double-check that “cdn.static.viddler.com”, “cdn-static.viddler.com”, and “static.cdn-ec.viddler.com” are set to “Allow”.
Next, go to the “Camera and Mic” tab and make sure that “Ask me when a site wants to use the camera or microphone (recommended)” is selected.
Then click on the “Camera and Microphone Settings by Site…” and insure that “cdn.static.viddler.com”, “cdn-static.viddler.com”, and “static.cdn-ec.viddler.com” are set to “Ask me” or “Allow”.
Does Flash Support your Webcam?
You can check to see if Flash supports your webcam by checking a third-party test tool like Test My Cam. If the video doesn’t display or is distorted in some way, Flash doesn’t fully support your Webcam. Unfortunately that means that a fix is out of Viddler’s control.
Does my webcam work at all?
Check using an application that can use your webcam (Photo Booth work well for this task) if you see a black screen or “There is no connected camera” there may be an OS or hardware issue; you can try the method in the next section.
Reset your System Management Controller (SMC)
In some more extreme cases, you may need to reset your machine’s System Management Controller (SMC). For up-to-date information on how to perform this action on your Mac, see this Apple Support article.
I’m Using Windows
Is another application using your Webcam?

Restart your computer
Sometimes a fix really is that simple!
Check Flash Settings:
(For Windows 7) Click on Start, go to Control Panel
Choose “System and Security”, then click on Flash Player (32-bit)
On the “Storage” tab, check to make sure “Allow sites to save information on this computer” is selected
Then click on “Local Storage Settings by Site…” and double-check that “cdn.static.viddler.com”, “cdn-static.viddler.com”, and “static.cdn-ec.viddler.com” are set to “Allow”.

Does my webcam work at all?
Check using an application that can use your webcam. (Use the utility that was included with your Webcam if possible, an application like Windows Live Movie Maker might work as well). If it can’t detect it, there may be a hardware or OS issue.
Update/Reinstall Webcam Drivers and Software
Check with your hardware manufacturer to see if they have updated software and/or drivers for your webcam. This may also solve issues with odd or incorrect video displaying in Flash.
I’m on a device running Android, or I’m using an iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch
The Viddler webcam recorder is not supported on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone at this time. (In other words, Viddler’s webcam recorder only work with Desktop OSes like OS X and Windows). If you would like to upload a video to your account from a mobile device, then please record it to the device, then upload via our Basic Uploader: viddler.com/upload
